What is it?
Diastasis recti separation is the gap created when your rectus abdominus (6 pack) muscles part to allow your baby more space to grow.
Once you have given birth, your body has much rehabilitation and repair to do and it very cleverly starts this process with immediate effect. The diastasis recti is one area that can take a while to return to its pre pregnancy state and on occasion, doesn’t quite get there, so it is worth having it checked by a specialist women’s health physio or Buggyfit trainer.
We have a video below from Buggyfit @ home (our online training programme that can be started at any stage postnatally. This video shows you how to self-check your gap and below are some exercise suggestions to aid in your abdominal recovery – we suggest you do 3 rounds of 15 for each exercise.
Better still come along to a Buggyfit class and we will check for you and instruct and advise on suitable exercises for you to do to ensure this recovers optimally. If you can not get to a class, or there is not one close enough to you then the ‘Buggyfit @ home’ programme will be perfect, with easy to follow exercises delivered by Emma Redding (Buggyfit Founder) and Megan Vickers (Specialist women’s health physio)
