Buggyfit fights against postpartum mental illness

Autumn is upon us and we begin to reflect on the year so far as well as our plans for the end of 2023 into the New Year. It’s been a big year for Buggyfit as we celebrated our 20th Birthday in September, with lots of fun events and still more to come! It’s been so nice to hear all of the kind words and messages from our customers past and present, and how much Buggyfit has meant and still means to you all!

It has been a great time to reflect on what Buggyfit can offer outside of the obvious exercise class. We know it’s not always easy to get out, exercise and/or make new friends with a new baby, for some harder than others. That is why as part of our celebrations we have been raising money for Pandas Foundation (https://pandasfoundation.org.uk) to help fund their much needed care, advice and further research into postnatal depression and other postnatal mental illnesses – and you can still donate to our fundraising page by clicking on the QR code.

If you or someone you know is finding it hard to cope mentally in the postnatal period, its so important to reach out to one of the many organisations that can help – such as Pandas themselves or Action on Postpartum psychosis (APP) in the most extreme cases. Postpartum psychosis is the most severe form of postnatal mental illness, and despite close to 1,500 women being diagnosed every year in the UK, it’s still one of the least talked about conditions. APP (www.app-network.org) aims to raise awareness of this severe mental illness, helping to identify signs and symptoms to help ensure an earlier diagnosis and make all the difference to those women who need it, and of course their families.

We honestly feel that Buggyfit is a fantastic way to help with postpartum mental illness as you can surround yourself with like-minded, non-judgemental people who have your back, as well as throwing in a few squats or two to help get those endorphins going – especially as the days get colder and shorter and you need them that little bit more!
