Tommy’s 2012 baby races come to an end…

We joined forces with Tommy’s again this year to host 10 baby races and last weekend we had the final race which marked the end of a hugely successful fundraising campaign by Tommy’s and buggyfit.

We have just heard from Tommy’s that as of this morning (27.09.12) the total raised by all entrants stands at a fantastic £70,000. This amazing figure is more than double last years total figure and is thanks to all of the 664 people who registered and took part in the races.

Well done to all the buggyfit trainers who worked closely with Tommy’s to organise and host the amazing 10 races around the UK – well done all its a great achievement and for a fantastic cause.

A picture that we think captures the baby races this year...

Our trainer for Gillingham, Gravesham and Medway has been helping a worthy campaign…

Michelle Burke is our trainer for Gillingham, Gravesham and Medway and has been helping out with a local campaign to raise funds to get a local three year old boy to America for vital treatment to help fight a rare form of cancer he is suffering from. Michelle heard about the local campaign and was spurred on to turn one of her buggyfit classes into a fundraising class and donate all proceeds to the campaign. Her actions picked up a small clipping in the local paper:

Our Reading trainer, Claire McMillan has been fundraising for great causes

Claire McMillan, our buggyfit Reading trainer has been helping out in raising monies for a great cause, The Amelia’s Miracle campaign which is raising money for Amelia, three who was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour last month so she can go to Texas for treatment. Her mum Chantal and Amelia, once attended Claire’s buggyfit classes so she has been helping out by putting on a free class, with all donations going to the campaign.

Please read in more detail all about the Amelia’s Miracle campaign and what Claire McMillan has been up to in the month of March:

Tommy’s The Let’s get baby friendly Awards 2012

On Friday 16 March 2012, we here at buggyfit HQ and a couple of our buggyfit trainers Maggie Fordham (one of our Cambridge trainers) and Emma Dart (our Cheshire trainer) were all invited to the Landmark Hotel in London for the Tommy’s Let Get Baby Friendly Awards. It was a great day, but with mixed emotion as tributes were paid to the friends, families who have offered support to those who have suffered pregnancy complications or the loss of a baby. The day started with a lovely drinks reception (always a welcome break for us buggyfitters), followed by a delicious lunch and ending with the baby friendly company awards which recognise the companies making a real difference to families lives, ensuring parents needs are met. There were a handful of celebrities attending the awards too, all of which presented the awards to the winning companies and to the friends and families and brave children who had all been supported by Tommys great work through their tough and sad times. We had the lovely Kirsten O’Brien on our table and after lunch the buggyfit gang went searching for a few snaps with all the other celebrities to remember the day by…

About the baby races

Organised in partnership with the pre and post-natal fitness experts, Buggyfit, these are a series of 8K events for you to run or power walk with your baby in their buggy. The routes all follow paths perfect for buggies in beautiful parks. There’s an aerobic warm up to start, children’s entertainment and a bumper goody bag when you cross the finish line. You don’t even need a baby or a buggy to take part, the whole family can join in, whether walking or running and older children can cycle or scoot.
Entry is £14.50 per adult and includes a free t-shirt. We ask that you try and raise £50 in sponsorship using the online fundraising page created when you register.

Every penny you raise will go towards Tommy’s research and information programmes, which aim to prevent premature birth, stillbirth and miscarriage. For more information and to sign up please visit http://www.tommys.org/babyrace.

Downing Street Drinks Reception!

We were invited to Downing St. for a drinks reception last Wednesday (18th May), for our contribution to pre and postnatal exercise and fundraising efforts for Tommy’s Baby charity.
Obviously flattered to be invited, we entered the famous gates, were cheked by security and once we were behind THAT door, were treated to wine and canapes!
Inside, we chatted to many people from both the corporate world linked with pre and postnatal life, plus some amazing couples who have had the misfortune to need to utilise the great research Tommy’s does that our funding goes towards. Especially Pinz and Jeet from Greenford who are looking forward to the birth of a Daughter soon- Best wishes.
Last year Buggyfit organised an event called ‘The Baby Race’ in conjuntion with Tommy’s and raised over £10,000. In September 2011 we have 5 venues for ‘The Baby Race’ , so are on track to raise £50k + (See www.tommys.org to see how you can get involved.
